Heat embossing on Dark cardstock

Hello! Today I have a card share with showing just how striking heat embossing can look on dark cardstock.

I used a variety of glitter embossing powders, including one from a previous Hedgehog Hollow kit. The feathers and all stamps I use here are from the current September Hedgehog Hollow kit.

Start with a dark cardbase, I used black cardstock here. Then use an anti-static powder bag to prep it. Dark cardstock is notorious for holding onto stray bits of embossing powder so don’t skip this step!

Then, using an embossing ink, stamp the image onto the cardstock and add various colors of glitter embossing powders. I used my Nuvo spoon to add a little of each color to get a smooth look.

I love how this embossing powder really pops on the dark background.

For the sentiments, I used Distress Oxides to blend the background colors. I gave it some time to dry before stamping the sentiments on with a black ink. Then, I cut out sentiment strips.

So take a look at your embossing powders and try it out on a dark cardstock base! It’s fun to see the different results.

I have a short video to show you some tricks for heat embossing and ways to get a softer blend between colors, watch it below or on YouTube:

I hope you enjoyed this project today. As you can see, I couldn’t stop making these cards once I got started!

I’m often asked what supplies I use to make my cards and projects, so I’ve put together a list using affiliate links when possible. If you make a purchase with these links I may receive a small commission. These help me to keep up with blog costs and continue bringing you fun projects. Thank you so much for your support!

Peacock cards using Paper Strips

Hello again! Today I have some peacock cards to share, using the stamps from The Hedgehog Hollow September Kit.

I gathered together some cardstock in various colors (inspired by a peacock) and cut them into strips for these easy-to-make cards.

Beautiful peacocks

I sometimes love a card that has no coloring…and this first card is just that! The colorful paper does the coloring “for you.” I heat embossed the peacock in gold over those strips of paper for an easy card.

The second card needed a bit more glitter! Lol. So I cut those strips from glitter cardstock for this one.

I have a quick video to show you the process for these cards, watch it below or on YouTube:

These cards were fun to put together and also just a little different. I hope it inspired you to try this technique on your cards!

I love these peacocks, and they are fun to use on a card. I will be back soon with more inspiration!

Using Zigs to Blend

Hello! Today I’m excited to bring to you a couple cards using beautiful florals designed by Alex Syberia. These florals are exclusive to the Hedgehog Hollow August box and they are gorgeous! I have had a few requests to show how to blend with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers….and so I’m combining the two!

Here’s a look at my cards:

Vibrant Colors from these watercolor markers!

I have a video showing you the process and how to get such vibrant colors (hint: I don’t use water at all! Only the Zigs). Watch the video below or on YouTube:

This August box will sell out fast, so if you love beautiful florals that are so very fun to color, go check out this box soon!

Ink blended background

I gold heat embossed the images first, then colored with the Zigs. For this first card, I ink blended a background using Distress Inks and makeup brushes. I love this look. I used the Zigs on the flowers and fussy cut them out. Then I popped them up using foam tape.

Three colors of green, Three colors of pink

Now I know sometimes the ink blending on the background either takes too long, or maybe you don’t enjoy ink blending. This beautiful flower looks great on a patterned paper background, too!

I’m often asked about the supplies I use to make my cards, so I’ve compiled a list for you here, using affiliate links when possible. When you purchase using these links, I may receive a small commission. These help me to keep up with my blog costs and continue to bring you fun projects. Thank you so very much!

I really hope you love these cards as much as I do. Sometimes a photograph just doesn’t do a card justice, and I think that might be the case with these! I love just how much they POP in real life! Thank you for stopping by.

Watercolor Paper to create an underwater Scene

Hello! Today I was inspired by some designer paper that looks like watercolor! It came in the June 2019 Hedgehog Hollow Kit, and I couldn’t wait to create a scene complete with jellyfish.

I have a process video below, or watch it in HD on YouTube:

I think the waves that also came in the kit (as well as the underwater images) are fantastic. I heat embossed the waves with white embossing powder, then fussy cut the top to reveal the stenciled sun rays.

All the images were colored with Copics, and fussy cut to create this underwater scene. The Hello sentiment is from my stash, and is currently a favorite of mine!

A rainbow hello!

For the sand, I used some embossing powder called “Dirty Sand” that I found at Creativation last year. It’s from Emerald Creek and I love it….it really looks like sand! I know that some other companies have since come out with a sand embossing powder, but this was the first one I had ever seen.

I’m often asked what products I’ve used on my cards, so I’ve linked them below, using affiliate links when possible. I couldn’t find the sand embossing powder that I used, so I’ve linked a couple others that I found. When you purchase using one of these links, I may receive a small commission. These help me keep up with blog costs and continue to bring you fun projects. I thank you very much!
