Holiday OCC — Day 6 Coloring

Today was a surprise day for the Holiday 2014 Online Card Class! I was so happy to see it, since I really thought the class was over!

I was inspired by Debby Hughes, who showed us some coloring with colored pencils on kraft paper. She is amazing! She heat embossed her image (a poinsettia) in white, then colored.

WELL, I wanted to turn this black bear into a POLAR bear this season, and this was my perfect opportunity. Heat embossing in WHITE was a brilliant idea (thank you, Debby) and it really worked well for this Polar bear. My dad loves bears and that includes Polar bears! This will have to be a card for him, I think!

One trick I really loved, was to color in 2 shades of red (on the Santa hat) and then add a bit of brown to really add some shading. This is a great trick and really worked well for me!

So how do you like my polar bear?!

Holiday OCC — Day 4 One-Layer Cards

Oh, online card classes, how I’m loving all your inspiration! I’ve really wanted to give partial die-cutting a try, and this class was the kick I needed to get it done. I think I may need a bit more practice, but I’m so happy with this result. Now there’s nothing that can stop me from crafting more of these beauties!

I think he looks like he’s standing in a snow globe…can you see it?! 🙂

Instead of inking up the background like Jennifer McGuire did, I used some patterned paper with snowflakes for the inside piece. I added a bit of glitter to it just for fun! (you may not be able to tell in this picture, but in real life it’s glorious!)

I just love these penguins and I like to give them a bit of color to their bellies. So fun.

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Mama Elephant “Arctic Penguins” and “Season’s Greetings”

Holiday OCC — Day 2, “Peace on Earth”

These online card classes are so inspiring! On day 2 we learned about Interactive cards. I loved all the samples, but the one by Kelly Marie Alvarez (of Lawn Fawn) was so cute! She made a card with 2 birds holding a star, and when you pulled the tag on the card, they put the star on the top of the Christmas tree. Sorry, that may be difficult to understand! Since this is my very FIRST interactive pull-tab card, I decided to go a bit simpler.

I made a background using Distress Inks, then I put sparkle embossing powder over the entire background and heat set it. I love the texture it adds! Then I added the sentiment, and heat set it in black. When you add embossing powder OVER another layer of embossing powder, it kind of melts into the first layer! Whoa.

In hindsight, I think I might have embossed that sentiment first and then added the distress ink. I will have to try it that way next time!

The tab on the side pulls out and the dove “flies” the branch over the top of the card. So cool. This card took me a LONG time to make, probably because I’ve never constructed anything like this before. But I think it was so worth it!

It’s not perfect, but it’s so interesting!

Holiday OCC: Day 1

I just love the online card classes by Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Werner. This is the first Holiday class I’ve taken from them, but I’m having a blast! On day one, we learned a bit about making cards that are easy to replicate. I was completely mesmerized by Debby Hughes’ take on “dip dyed” tags, that I had to try it out.

Here’s the card I made:

She always does such cute small cards (this is 3 1/2 x 5″). I used some gold ink to splatter on the background. I used the Simon Says Stamp “Eliza” snowflake– one of my absolute favorites!! See all that detail? Then I “dip-dyed” that snowflake in gold sparkle embossing powder. Awesome.

Supplies Used:
Dies: Simon Says Stamp “Eliza” snowflake; Savvy Stamps “Joy”
Other: American Crafts twine; Mr. Huey’s gold spray; Neenah Solar White 80# paper;
