Day 5: a Rainbow Burst Sky

I absolutely adored a card made by Jennifer McGuire in Rainbow Maker class today. I didn’t have any glitter embossing paste like she used, so instead I used a sparkly embossing powder.

After I finished the rainbow background, I couldn’t bear to cover up the gorgeousness so I used vellum for my images. You can still see some of that color through the vellum.

This hot air balloon set from Waffle Flower is a favorite of mine! Isn’t the radiating rainbow with sparkly rays so mesmerizing?! Thanks for the inspiration, Jennifer!

Day 4: Watercolor Smooshing

Today was a great day for the Rainbow Maker Class! I wanted to make every single card that was taught, and I probably still will. But for now I have an Ink Smooshing card inspired by Laura Bassen.

I heat embossed the sentiment (from Reverse Confetti) with Ranger Liquid Platinum embossing powder. It is difficult to tell in this picture, but in real life it’s like a muted silvery gold color. So pretty!

I added a few sequins to finish it off. Hope you like it!

Day 3: Rainbow Die Cuts (Part 5)

Well, I couldn’t resist. I had so much fun on Day 3 of Rainbow Maker and I had to make ANOTHER card (or two!) Lol. This time I was inspired by May Park and I made this card using a Neat & Tangled die:

Of course, when I made it, I had a separate piece that I just HAD to use up, too. I’ll share that card in the next post!

Loving all the rainbow gorgeousness this week!

Rainbow Maker: Hugs Sequin Card

I was inspired by Laura Bassen (and Jennifer McGuire) to make this card:

It may not look like it, but there are over 200 sequins (4 mm) on this card, each placed one-by-one! This was definitely a labor of love. I think it was worth it, don’t you?

Loving this class so far.

Comparing Distress Ink & Distress Oxides: Watercoloring

[This is the second in a series of comparing Distress Ink vs. Distress Oxides. See the Blending comparison here.]

The next question I had was: “Can you watercolor with the new Distress Oxide inks?” And, since it’s the end of shark week, I used sharks as my subject.

I used Tim Holtz watercolor paper and Distress Oxide inks here. I found that YES! You can watercolor with the Oxide Inks. They are a little chalkier than normal watercolor, and they don’t blend quite as well, or have the watercolor feel (or “blooms”). Also, they do COVER the black stamped images a little. But that is easily remedied by going over those lines with a black marker.

The original Distress Ink was definitely more like watercolor. You could add and get that watercolor “bloom” feel. So I liked that. And it was a little easier to add water and drop in color to have it react with the water.

Here’s the finished cards:

I realized (after I was done) that it would have been easier for this comparison to create exactly the same card for a more accurate test. Lol.

The verdict is: you can watercolor with either one. It might be easier with the original inks, but I really liked the chalkier look for these sharks!

Have you tried watercoloring with Distress Oxides?

I have more comparisons coming soon!
