“You are Loved” card

I just learned on Wednesday that a dear friend and neighbor is moving! 🙁 I know that moving is chaotic and overwhelming sometimes and so I was inspired to make the following cards in her honor:

you-are-loved

I am just enthralled with “Sunshine” cards (yes, it goes with the name of my blog!) and this one surprised me because it turned out in shades of blue, rather than yellow! I tinted the embossed sentiment with Distress Ink in Peacock and added some glitter to the “sunburst.” I will re-visit this idea later, because I think it looks more like a quilt or sky than a sunburst. Funny how things turn out sometimes.

(to be continued: see the next card in the next post…)

So, dear friend who is moving (you know who you are)…these are for you! Everything IS going to be alright. And you are loved.

Everything’s Going to be Alright, you’ll see

This one is perhaps my favorite of the two. I glittered up the clouds a bit and added a yellow ribbon. Then I used some liquid pearls in pink to add dimension on the sentiment stripe. Fun!

I love this saying. LOVE. I have my husband trained to tell me “Everything’s going to be ok!” when I ask him to tell me “something.” I know that I might worry too much, and this really calms me down. So this card is so endearing to me. 🙂 And I love the sky when it is filled with clouds. It is so peaceful. This paper with clouds is adorable!

“Take a photo” Card Challenge

It’s a perfect day to send a card or two. Today I was up for the challenge from Simon Says Stamp. The theme for the challenge is: Take a Photo.

I was also a bit inspired by “Memorial Day” and the memories of loved ones. I love the idea of taking a picture and holding it in your heart…so you can always feel those good times and bring them to mind. See how I “framed” those good times in the card below?

So here’s my card:

I’ve been playing with a new technique that’s kind of fun: I embossed the arrows with white embossing powder and then watercolored over the top of them. The embossing resists the watercolor and the arrows remain white, but adding that color behind them makes them really pop!

I love the red glitter heart added to the frame, too. I used Stickles in Christmas red on that little heart.

Until next time, hold onto those good memories in your heart!

A plain box to a fancy box!

I got these plain kraft boxes from PaperMart and they are small and cute, but they are PLAIN! So, to dress them up a bit, I am going to show you how easy it is to add an initial, some paper, and a ribbon to make this box Spectacular.

You can use any color scheme you like. I chose pink and black today. It would be cute in purples or red, white and blue, even!

Here’s a quick video on how I made them:

I got the initials from here, but I did have to reduce them in size so each initial was about 2 inches. I printed them on white cardstock and cut them with a circle punch.

Aren’t they cute? And they don’t take long to decorate this way. I have to admit, it was the first time I used the Xyron Sticker Maker and I LOVE it!! Why didn’t they have these around when I was a kid? I would have turned everything into a sticker!! 🙂
But don’t worry, you don’t have to own a sticker maker, you can attach the initial with glue dots, pop dots (or you can print the initial out on sticker paper). Lots of options!

I’d love to see your box decor, send me a comment with a link or email me. See ya next time!

Easy Mother’s Day Card

Mother’s Day is right around the corner! I can’t believe how fast these days are flying by. But I was inspired to create a Mother’s Day card by something my grandmother always tells me. She is in a nursing home after having a stroke and heart attack. She is such an inspiration to me because even in the middle of her recovery at the hospital, she told me a joke!

Each Friday I take her lunch. As I leave each time I tell her that I love her and she replies, “I love you more.” <3

So this card is designed around that sentiment. I hope you enjoy!

The flowers are made from tissue paper cut out with a small 7/8″ scallop punch. The “stems” are made from baker’s twine. I made a short video how-to for you.

And now, as promised, here is the sentiment I made.
