OCC Day 1: Heat Embossing Faux Ceramic Tiles

It’s the first day of Online Card Classes Clean and Simple 4! I love these classes. So much creativity. Today I wanted to try the technique taught by the talented Julie Ebersole — how to make Faux Ceramic tiles with heat embossing.

Here’s my take:

Since it’s a little rainy today, I was inspired to use an umbrella die cut for this one. Then I inked it up with some distress inks and let it dry completely. Then I coated it with Versamark ink and covered the entire tile with clear embossing powder. What a neat effect!

Great first day of class!

Merry Christmas Deer

This adorable deer can be found in the “Happy Camper” stamp set by Paper Smooches and I just love him. So I wanted to use him on a Christmas card. I stamped him on kraft paper and then colored him using colored pencils.

You can see a bit of shine on their noses and their spots (thanks to some glossy accents). That sweater background is made using Distress Inks and Tim Holtz’ stencil. It’s a bit hard to tell in the picture, but they are standing on a snowy hill of Distress glitter.

I just love that Paper Smooches handwriting for the sentiment, too!

Squirrel (Home for the Holidays)

One of my favorite card designers, Emily Leiphart, is having a “Squirrel Fest” over at her site and of course I had to play along! The rules are to make a card with a squirrel on it. I did a sort of winter/Christmas theme for this card:

This squirrel is extra happy because he has an acorn in his stocking! I did a watercolored winter background. Then made a “snowy” embossed glitter hill for him to sit on. The acorns are sugared up with Distress glitter, and the stocking has some stickles to make it extra sparkly. Doesn’t that squirrel just look so happy!

I wish we could all be so happy this Christmas season!

Holiday OCC — Day 6 Coloring

Today was a surprise day for the Holiday 2014 Online Card Class! I was so happy to see it, since I really thought the class was over!

I was inspired by Debby Hughes, who showed us some coloring with colored pencils on kraft paper. She is amazing! She heat embossed her image (a poinsettia) in white, then colored.

WELL, I wanted to turn this black bear into a POLAR bear this season, and this was my perfect opportunity. Heat embossing in WHITE was a brilliant idea (thank you, Debby) and it really worked well for this Polar bear. My dad loves bears and that includes Polar bears! This will have to be a card for him, I think!

One trick I really loved, was to color in 2 shades of red (on the Santa hat) and then add a bit of brown to really add some shading. This is a great trick and really worked well for me!

So how do you like my polar bear?!

Holiday OCC — Day 5 Tags

I can feel the end of the Holiday Online Card Class getting closer…and I really don’t want it to end!

Today I was inspired by Yana Smakula’s tags. She cut out a snowflake on her gift tag and put some red paper behind it. It just so happens, that I had the perfect size snowflake to fit my tag! Mine turned out blue…

For the “Merry” banner, I watercolor stamped a background image, then cut it out with a Reverse Confetti die. I love how it adds a little surprise to this tag. Then I used some stickles glitter glue and added it to the “Merry.”

Doesn’t this tag just make you want to sing? Or at least add “and bright” out loud?! Ha! Happy Christmas!
